Passport Photo Size: Pixels, File Size and Format
Understand why passport-style upload requirements vary and how to prepare a photo when a form specifies dimensions, format or KB limits.
There is no universal online passport-photo specification
Different countries, portals and applications can request different dimensions, formats, backgrounds and file-size ranges. Treat the specific application instructions as the authority rather than relying on a generic size found elsewhere.
The same physical passport-style photograph may need several different digital versions for different online forms.
Prepare the image in the right order
Start with a clear original. Crop and frame the photo according to the published rules, resize to the requested pixel dimensions, then reduce file size if the portal has a KB or MB limit.
Do not repeatedly compress the final copy. Keep the original so you can create another version when a different portal has different requirements.
Verify before uploading
Check the final file extension, pixel dimensions and file size. If the form also specifies background or appearance rules, verify those separately because a file-size tool cannot determine whether a photo satisfies every visual requirement.
