Example: grouped exam scores
Thirty scores grouped into six equal-width classes produce six intervals. Each class reports its midpoint, count, percentage and cumulative count so the distribution can be audited without recounting the raw list.
What the result does not assume
- •Different class boundaries or class-count rules can produce different grouped tables from the same data. This calculator states its equal-width rule rather than implying one grouping is uniquely correct.
- •For continuous data, ungrouped mode can produce many rows with frequency 1; grouped mode is often more informative.
- •Grouping loses detail by design. Keep the original data for downstream calculations that require exact values.

It is a row or class count divided by the total number of observations, often shown as a percentage.
What is cumulative frequency?+
It is the running total of frequencies up to and including the current row/class.
How many classes should I use?+
There is no universal choice. Use enough classes to show structure without creating mostly empty or one-value bins; the available selector makes the choice explicit.
