Question 1

What is MAXScanner?

Accepted Answer

MAXScanner is a task-focused PDF, image, media and calculator toolkit. Many file tools run locally in your browser; some conversions, account features and API workflows use server-side processing when the tool says so.

Question 2

Is MAXScanner really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The web tools are free and need no account. The only paid part is the developer API, which has a small free allowance and paid credit plans for higher volume.

Question 3

Do I need to create an account?

Accepted Answer

Not for the web tools. An account is only needed for the saved-files library, workflows you want to keep, and the developer API.

Question 4

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the tool. Browser-local tools process selected files on your device. Tools marked as server-backed send the file needed for that operation to MAXScanner processing infrastructure. Check the processing note on the tool before starting.

Question 5

Is it safe to use MAXScanner with sensitive documents?

Accepted Answer

Use the processing note on the specific tool to decide whether it fits the sensitivity of your document. Browser-local tools keep the file on-device; server-backed tools transmit the file for the requested operation. Avoid sensitive files when the stated processing model does not meet your requirements.

Question 6

What happens to my files after processing?

Accepted Answer

Browser-local temporary work stays in your browser. Account or library features can store items you explicitly choose to save, and server-backed jobs can create private processing and result objects for the requested workflow. Private storage keys must not appear in public URLs.

Question 7

What PDF operations can I perform?

Accepted Answer

The PDF tools cover merging, splitting, compressing, rotating and reordering pages, converting to and from images, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and text, editing and annotating, signing, watermarking, password protection and removal, OCR and more. The PDF tools page lists every one.

Question 8

Can I merge multiple PDF files?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can merge multiple PDF files into one. Simply use the Merge PDF tool, upload your files, arrange them in the desired order, and click merge.

Question 9

Can I convert images to PDF?

Accepted Answer

Yes, MAXScanner supports converting various image formats (JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF, SVG, HEIC) to PDF. You can convert single or multiple images at once.

Question 10

Can I edit text in a PDF?

Accepted Answer

MAXScanner provides annotation and editing tools including highlighting, adding text, shapes, images, and signatures. For full text editing, the PDF Editor tool offers comprehensive annotation capabilities.

Question 11

What browsers are supported?

Accepted Answer

MAXScanner works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend using the latest version of your browser for the best experience.

Question 12

Is there a file size limit?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the tool. Browser-based tools are limited mainly by your device's memory, so very large files can fail on phones and older computers. Server-backed tools, such as Office to PDF, have a per-file upload limit and report it if a file is too large.

Question 13

Why is processing slow for large files?

Accepted Answer

For browser-based tools, speed depends on your device: large files need more memory and processor time. Closing other tabs helps. For server-backed tools, upload speed and file size matter most.

Question 14

Does MAXScanner work offline?

Accepted Answer

Browser-based tools need a connection to load the page; after that, the processing runs on your device. Server-backed tools, such as Office to PDF and the audio and video tools, need a connection the whole time.

Question 15

What languages are supported?

Accepted Answer

The interface is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Arabic (right-to-left). Some sections are still English-only, and English is the reference version.

Question 16

How do I change the language?

Accepted Answer

You can change the language using the language selector in the header. Your preference will be saved for future visits.
