The calculation, without hidden assumptions

Fuel-cost math becomes messy when the road distance is in one unit, vehicle economy is quoted in another, and the pump price uses liters or gallons. This calculator normalizes the inputs internally, then shows total fuel, fuel-only cost, optional fixed trip costs, cost per distance and cost per person. The conversion assumptions stay visible so a metric and US-MPG comparison does not become guesswork.

Example: 300 km at 15 km/L

A 300 km one-way trip at 15 km/L uses 20 liters. At a fuel price of 1.50 per liter, fuel-only cost is 30 before tolls or other entered extras.

What the result does not assume

  • Actual fuel economy changes with speed, traffic, load, weather, tire pressure, terrain and vehicle condition.
  • Use the pump price and vehicle economy definition that match your location; US MPG and imperial MPG are not the same, and this calculator intentionally labels US MPG.

Can I enter liters per 100 km instead of km per liter?+

Yes. Choose L/100 km and enter the vehicle consumption figure directly.

Does MPG mean US or imperial gallons?+

This calculator labels and uses US MPG. Do not enter an imperial-MPG figure without converting it first.

Can it split the trip among passengers?+

Yes. Enter the number of people sharing the modeled total cost to see an even per-person amount.
