Series RLC Impedance Calculator — Magnitude, Phase & Resonance

Solve ideal series RLC inductive/capacitive reactance, impedance magnitude, phase angle and resonant frequency from R, L, C and frequency.

Results

|Z| 138.8457 Ω
XL 62.83185 Ω
XC 159.1549 Ω
Phase -43.92704°
Resonance 1,591.549 Hz

Formula and assumptions

Z=R+j(XL−XC); |Z|=√(R²+(XL−XC)²); f0=1/(2π√LC).

At resonance XL and XC cancel, so ideal series impedance approaches R.

  • Ideal lumped RLC components.
  • Component ESR, parasitics and tolerance are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

What does negative phase mean?

Negative impedance phase means the series circuit is net capacitive at that frequency.

What happens at resonance?

Ideal inductive and capacitive reactances cancel, leaving the resistor as the impedance magnitude.
