Wallpaper is not just an area problem. A repeating pattern can force every strip to be cut longer so the design lines up, and that changes how many full drops fit in a roll. This calculator works from strip count and drop length so the repeat is visible instead of buried in a generic waste percentage.
How to use this calculator
Enter the total wall width you plan to paper and the finished wall height.
Enter the actual roll width and roll length, plus the vertical pattern repeat from the product label. Set repeat to zero for a non-repeating pattern.
Add a small project allowance only when needed and review both matched drop length and strips per roll before ordering.

Why pattern repeat matters
If a wall is 96 in high and a pattern repeats every 20 in, each full drop must be rounded to a 100 in multiple for matching. That extra 4 in per strip can reduce the number of strips cut from each roll.
What the result does not assume
- •Doors, windows, half drops, offsets and product-specific matching rules can change real yield. The strip model is intentionally conservative for full-height drops.
- •Roll labeling differs by market and product. Enter the physical roll dimensions you are actually purchasing.

Why does pattern repeat increase wallpaper use?+
The next strip may need extra length so the printed pattern aligns at the top. The calculator rounds each drop up to a whole repeat.
What should I enter for no pattern repeat?+
Enter 0. The drop length then uses the wall height directly.
Does it subtract windows?+
Not by default. Full-height strip planning is often safer around openings because offcuts may not replace a complete matched drop.
