The calculation, without hidden assumptions
A broad date calculator should answer the two jobs people actually bring to it: “how far apart are these dates?” and “what date lands this far before or after another date?” This parent tool keeps both in one calculator, uses date-only arithmetic so time zones do not silently move a calendar day, exposes inclusive versus elapsed counting, and treats business days as Monday through Friday unless a dedicated holiday-aware tool is used.
How to use this calculator
Choose Difference between dates or Add / subtract a duration.
Enter the dates and choose calendar-day or weekday-only business-day handling where it applies.
Read the result, weekday, duration equivalents and the exact counting assumption before using it for a deadline or schedule.
Where people use it
- •Project and contract date checks
- •Travel, notice-period and deadline planning
- •Counting weekdays without pretending country-specific holidays are universal
- •Finding a date weeks, months or years before or after a known date
Example: 30 days after 15 January 2026
With Shift selected, base date 15 January 2026, Add, amount 30 and Days, the result is 14 February 2026. The start date is day zero: adding one day always moves to the next calendar date.
What the result does not assume
- •Business-day mode means Monday through Friday only. It does not subtract public holidays because holiday calendars differ by country, region and employer.
- •Month and year shifts clamp to the last valid day when the destination month has no matching day, so 31 January + 1 month becomes the final day of February.
- •Difference mode is date-only. It does not model hours, time zones or daylight-saving transitions.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Date Calculator include the start date?+
Elapsed difference treats the start date as day zero. Turn on inclusive counting when both the start and end calendar dates should count.
Can it add or subtract business days?+
Yes for day-based shifts. Business-day mode advances only through Monday to Friday. Public holidays are not removed on this broad parent calculator.
What happens when I add a month to the 31st?+
The calculator clamps to the last valid day of the target month instead of overflowing into the following month.
Why keep separate Days Between Dates and Business Days calculators?+
Those child tools serve narrower jobs and richer assumptions. This page is the broad parent; the focused calculators remain useful when that exact workflow is the intent.
