Fence takeoffs vary sharply by style. A panel fence, a rail-and-picket fence and a wire fence do not share the same bill of materials. This calculator focuses on the geometry common to many straight runs, then keeps panel width, rails per bay and picket density editable so the estimate can match the chosen system.

Example: 100 ft straight run

With a 4 ft gate, 96 ft remains for infill. At an 8 ft target spacing that is 12 bays and 13 posts for a simple straight run before adding any special corner, brace or gate posts.

Are gate posts included automatically?+

Gate width is removed from infill length, but special gate/brace posts vary by system. Use the extra-post field for your detail.

Can I use this for panel fencing?+

Yes. Enter the actual panel width and the calculator returns whole panels in addition to bays and posts.

What if my fence has several corners?+

The geometry here treats one total run. Add the corner/end posts required by your layout and verify each segment separately when spacing must land exactly.
