100 × 100 pixels at a glance

100 × 100 pixels is a square image: 10,000 pixels in total (0.01 megapixels), with a 1:1 aspect ratio. Every non-square source loses part of its longer side when you crop to fill: a landscape phone photo keeps the middle 75% of its width.

At this size an image works as an icon or avatar; details such as text or eyes are only a few pixels wide. On this page our three test files came out at 2.8 KB to 6.2 KB as JPG and 1.5 KB to 5.6 KB as WebP.

Where 100 × 100 is asked for, and whether it fits

YouTube channel picture

YouTube says a channel picture renders at 98 × 98 pixels and the file may be up to 15 MB (JPG, GIF, BMP or PNG, not animated). 100 × 100 matches the size YouTube draws on a normal screen. Phones and laptops with 2× or 3× displays draw that circle with 196 to 294 real pixels, so a 100-pixel upload looks soft there; keep a larger square as well.

WordPress media library

WordPress core creates a 150 × 150 thumbnail, a medium copy up to 300 × 300 and a large copy up to 1024 × 1024 from every upload. A 100 × 100 upload is smaller than every one of those sizes, so WordPress makes no extra copies and any theme slot wider than 100 pixels stretches it. Upload the original and let WordPress make its own thumbnail, then use 100 × 100 only where the theme asks for it.

Google Merchant Center product images

From 31 January 2027 Google requires product images of at least 500 × 500 pixels and recommends about 1500 × 1500 or more. 100 × 100 is a fifth of that minimum on each side, so it is not a product photo size. It is still useful as a listing icon or a swatch inside your own shop.

100 × 100 in numbers

Worked out from the pixel size. The crop rows assume the page's default "Crop to fill" setting.

How to make a 100 × 100 image

  1. Add your images

Drop one or more JPG, PNG or WebP files. All of them get the same size and format; you can move the crop for each one.

  2. Choose how to reach 1:1

Keep "Crop to fill" for a full frame with nothing stretched, and drag the preview so the subject stays inside it. Switch to "Fit inside, pad" when nothing may be cut off, such as a wide logo.

  3. Pick the format

JPG is accepted everywhere. WebP was smaller for most of our test files at this size, if the site accepts it; PNG keeps transparency but makes the largest files.

  4. Download and check

The file name ends in -100x100, and the results panel shows the exact pixel size and KB so you can compare them with the form before uploading.

What this page produced from our test files

We ran three fixed test files through this page in headless Chrome 129.0.6668.29 on 2026-10-19, with the default "Crop to fill" setting. Sizes are the bytes of the downloaded files. The test files are generated from a fixed seed so anyone can repeat the run; they are not customer photos. WebP was smaller than JPG for all three files, by 10% to 52%.

Before you upload a 100 × 100 image

  • Icons for browser extensions are 128 × 128, not 100 × 100: the Chrome Web Store asks for a 128 × 128 store icon with the artwork inside a 96 × 96 area. Making a 100 × 100 file and then enlarging it to 128 blurs the edges.
  • At 100 × 100, a face photo keeps only a few pixels per eye. Crop tightly around the head before resizing, otherwise the person becomes a small dot in the middle of the square.
  • At 300 DPI it prints at only 0.33 × 0.33 in (0.8 × 0.8 cm). It is a screen size; use a print-size page when you need paper.

Frequently asked questions

What aspect ratio is 100 × 100?

1:1. Any size with the same ratio, such as 200 × 200, has the same shape and can be resized to 100 × 100 without cropping.

How many KB is a 100 × 100 image?

In our tests, 2.8 KB to 6.2 KB as JPG and 1.5 KB to 5.6 KB as WebP. Without compression it would be 29.3 KB. Noise, text and fine texture make files bigger; flat graphics make them smaller.

How big does 100 × 100 print?

0.33 × 0.33 in (0.8 × 0.8 cm) at 300 DPI, or 0.67 × 0.67 in (1.7 × 1.7 cm) at 150 DPI. DPI only changes the print size, not the pixels, so the file is the same either way.

Is 100 × 100 big enough for a profile picture?

It is the size many sites display, but not the size they want you to upload. YouTube draws its channel picture at 98 × 98 and still accepts files up to 15 MB, so upload a larger square (for example 400 × 400 or 800 × 800) and keep the 100 × 100 copy for places that require exactly that size.
