200 × 200 pixels at a glance

200 × 200 pixels is a square image: 40,000 pixels in total (0.04 megapixels), with a 1:1 aspect ratio. Every non-square source loses part of its longer side when you crop to fill: a landscape phone photo keeps the middle 75% of its width.

At this size an image works as an icon or avatar; details such as text or eyes are only a few pixels wide. On this page our three test files came out at 6 KB to 21.1 KB as JPG and 2 KB to 19.4 KB as WebP.

Where 200 × 200 is asked for, and whether it fits

Facebook link previews (og:image)

Meta sets 200 × 200 pixels as the smallest allowed og:image. It recommends at least 1200 × 630, keeps the larger link-preview layout for images of 600 × 315 or more, and accepts files up to 8 MB. 200 × 200 is exactly the floor: the preview will work, but Facebook shows it as a small square thumbnail beside the link instead of the wide image card. Use 1200 × 630 when you want the large card.

IBPS application photo

The IBPS upload guidelines ask for a photograph of 200 × 230 pixels (preferred) between 20 and 50 KB. People often search for 200 × 200 when the form actually says 200 × 230. The IBPS photo is 30 pixels taller, so a 200 × 200 file fails its dimension check; enter 200 × 230 in Resize Image instead. Our largest JPG at this size was 21.1 KB, within the 50 KB limit. Our smallest JPG at this size was 6 KB, below the 20 KB minimum, so a plain image can be rejected for being too small in bytes.

WordPress thumbnails

WordPress core makes a 150 × 150 thumbnail and a medium copy up to 300 × 300 from each upload. From a 200 × 200 upload WordPress still makes its 150 × 150 thumbnail but skips the medium copy, because it never enlarges images; slots that ask for the medium size get the 200 × 200 original.

How to make a 200 × 200 image

  1. Add your images

Drop one or more JPG, PNG or WebP files. All of them get the same size and format; you can move the crop for each one.

  2. Choose how to reach 1:1

Keep "Crop to fill" for a full frame with nothing stretched, and drag the preview so the subject stays inside it. Switch to "Fit inside, pad" when nothing may be cut off, such as a wide logo.

  3. Pick the format

JPG is accepted everywhere. WebP was smaller for most of our test files at this size, if the site accepts it; PNG keeps transparency but makes the largest files.

  4. Download and check

The file name ends in -200x200, and the results panel shows the exact pixel size and KB so you can compare them with the form before uploading.

What this page produced from our test files

We ran three fixed test files through this page in headless Chrome 129.0.6668.29 on 2026-10-19, with the default "Crop to fill" setting. Sizes are the bytes of the downloaded files. The test files are generated from a fixed seed so anyone can repeat the run; they are not customer photos. WebP was smaller than JPG for all three files, by 8% to 71%.

Before you upload a 200 × 200 image

  • A form that sets a minimum file size can reject a 200 × 200 image even when the pixel size is right, and this page has no setting that makes a file bigger. Compare the measured sizes on this page with the form before you upload.
  • Shop and marketplace thumbnails are often generated from a larger master. Upload the master to the shop and use 200 × 200 only where a form or template explicitly asks for it.
  • At 300 DPI it prints at only 0.67 × 0.67 in (1.7 × 1.7 cm). It is a screen size; use a print-size page when you need paper.

Frequently asked questions

What aspect ratio is 200 × 200?

1:1. Any size with the same ratio, such as 400 × 400, has the same shape and can be resized to 200 × 200 without cropping.

How many KB is a 200 × 200 image?

In our tests, 6 KB to 21.1 KB as JPG and 2 KB to 19.4 KB as WebP. Without compression it would be 117.2 KB. Noise, text and fine texture make files bigger; flat graphics make them smaller.

How big does 200 × 200 print?

0.67 × 0.67 in (1.7 × 1.7 cm) at 300 DPI, or 1.33 × 1.33 in (3.4 × 3.4 cm) at 150 DPI. DPI only changes the print size, not the pixels, so the file is the same either way.
