Words to Pages Calculator & PDF Preview

A thousand words can fill two pages or several more. Choose a layout for a rough estimate, then paste the actual text if you need to see the PDF this tool will produce.

Benefits

  • Make the paper, margin, font and spacing assumptions visible.
  • Keep an approximate word-count result separate from an actual PDF page count.
  • Download the generated PDF or continue straight to compression.

When this helps

  • Plan the length of a report before formatting the final document.
  • Compare single and double spacing on A4 or US Letter paper.
  • Create a simple printable PDF from a plain text draft.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose words to pages, pages to words, or the count from your pasted text.
  2. Select A4 or Letter, a standard font, type size, line spacing and margins.
  3. Review the approximate pages or word budget; copy the assumptions when sharing an estimate.
  4. For an actual document, paste or import text, generate its PDF, then preview and download it.

An estimate and a rendered document answer different questions

The estimate starts with an assumption of 500 words on a US Letter page with one-inch margins, 12-point Times Roman and single spacing. It scales that capacity by usable page area, the square of the font-size ratio, line spacing and a simple font factor. It is a planning model, not a measurement of your text.

In that baseline layout, 1,000 words gives approximately two pages. Double spacing halves the assumed capacity and gives approximately four pages. In reverse, a four-page budget at 250 words per page gives an estimated 1,000 words. A4 paper has a different usable area, so the result changes. Short paragraphs, headings, bullet lists and long words can shift the real page count further.

Generating a PDF is a separate operation. The renderer measures the actual text with the chosen standard PDF font, wraps it into lines and adds pages as needed. The displayed actual page count belongs to that generated PDF only. It does not promise identical pagination in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or another editor.

The built-in preview fonts have a limited character set. Unsupported characters cause an error instead of being silently removed. For other scripts, continue to the full Text to PDF workflow and check whether a suitable font is available. If the PDF preview is unavailable on your phone, download the file and open it in your normal PDF viewer.

Formats, limits and privacy

  • Estimate: 0–1,000,000 whole words or 0–10,000 pages; type 8–24 pt; spacing 1–3; equal margins 5–50 mm.
  • Actual PDF: up to 100,000 text code units, 1 MiB TXT input and 200 generated pages; standard-font Latin text.
  • Plain text only: no rich-text styling, images, tables, page headers or footnotes.

These tools process text locally. There is no draft autosave. Download important work before leaving; temporary file handoffs expire after 30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages is 1,000 words?

About two pages at the stated 500-word single-spaced Letter baseline, or four at double spacing. Change the controls for your assumptions and generate a PDF for its actual count.

Can a word count alone generate a PDF?

No. A count estimates length but contains no document content. Paste or import your actual text before generating a PDF.

Why did my preview disappear after a change?

The result is hidden when its text or layout changes so you cannot mistake an old PDF for the current settings. Generate again to update it.
