Engine defaults: the same engine and language data without our clean-up (automatic layout, no straightening, no light correction).
How we measured: the images come from a script that renders our own sentences, photographs them at a 4° angle with uneven light, and saves JPEGs, PNGs and PDFs. Times are from a 4-core cloud computer; the phone profile adds Chrome's 4× CPU slowdown. First runs also download the engine (about 1.1 MB) and the language data.
Clean printed pages in all 13 languages we offer came out with 3.6% or fewer errors. Photos of Chinese and Japanese text are harder: keep the camera straight above the page.

About This Tool
To convert a JPG to Word, add the photo of the page, choose the language and select Convert to Word, then Download Word (.docx). The file contains the recognized text as normal, editable paragraphs and opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice. The conversion runs in your browser; the image is never uploaded.
Several images become one Word file: each image starts on a new page under its file name, in the order you added them. PNG, WebP and HEIC photos work too, and you can correct the text on this page before you download.
What the Word file contains, and what it does not
You get the text, paragraph by paragraph, with the document language set so spell check works, and right-to-left paragraphs for Arabic. You do not get the original fonts, columns, pictures or table borders: OCR reads words, not page design. If the page must look exactly like the original, keep it as a PDF and make it searchable with OCR PDF instead.
In our test, a phone photo of a printed notice taken at an angle produced text with 0.1% character errors, and a printed Hindi page 0%. Read names, dates and amounts once before you send the document.
When to use a different tool
- The document is already a PDF with real text (saved from Word or a website): PDF to Word keeps more of the layout.
- You only need the words to paste somewhere: Image to Text gives copy-ready text.
- Handwritten pages are not supported.
