  1. 1. Workdays = ceil(80 ÷ 8) = 10.
  2. 2. Starting 2026-11-02, count 10 scheduled workday(s) on a 5-day/week pattern.
  3. 3. Finish date = 2026-11-13.
  4. 4. Final-day load = 80 − (10 − 1) × 8 = 8 hours.

Planning results follow only the schedule and capacity assumptions entered above. Holidays, leave, interruptions and individual performance are not inferred unless the calculator explicitly includes them.

How to use this calculator

Project Duration Calculator turns the schedule and capacity values you enter into a planning estimate. It does not guess holidays, leave, local labor rules or interruptions that are not represented in the inputs.

Step-by-step

  1. Step 1

Enter the schedule or workload values shown.

  2. Step 2

Set the work/study days, breaks, rates or thresholds that apply.

  3. Step 3

Review the result and the assumptions displayed beside it.

Common questions

Are holidays automatically removed?

No, unless a specific calculator provides a holiday input.

Are overtime rules automatic?

No. Overtime calculations use the threshold or multiplier you enter and do not determine legal entitlement.

Can I use a six- or seven-day schedule?

Yes. Those planning calculators allow one to seven scheduled days per week.

Planning notes

Convert project hours into scheduled workdays and a finish date

Project Duration treats entered hours/day as productive capacity assigned to this project, rounds the required number of scheduled workdays upward, and exposes the partial load on the final day rather than pretending every final day is full.

Worked example — 80 hours at 8 hours/day

An 80-hour project at 8 productive hours per scheduled workday needs 10 workdays. Starting Monday 2026-09-14 on a Monday–Friday pattern places the tenth scheduled workday on Friday 2026-09-25.

Useful for

  • Capacity-based project finish estimates
  • Comparing finish dates at different productive hours/day
  • Testing 5-, 6- or 7-day weekly work patterns

Limits and assumptions

  • Hours/day means capacity available to this project, not necessarily paid shift length.
  • Holidays, leave, dependencies, interruptions and resource contention are not automatically modeled.
  • The final workday may be partial; the calculator reports the remaining work allocated to that day.

Questions about this planning model

Why are project days rounded up?

A project requiring part of an additional scheduled day still occupies that workday in this simple planning model.

What if the start date is a weekend?

For a Monday–Friday pattern, counting begins on the next scheduled workday.

Does this include weekends automatically?

Only when the entered work-days-per-week pattern includes them.
