600 × 800 pixels at a glance
600 × 800 pixels is a portrait image 600 pixels wide and 800 tall: 480,000 pixels in total (0.48 megapixels), with a 3:4 aspect ratio. It is the shape of a phone photo held upright, so portrait phone photos shrink to it without losing anything.
It is a full-width web size that fills a phone screen or a blog column without looking soft. On this page our three test files came out at 34.4 KB to 211.1 KB as JPG and 4 KB to 169.1 KB as WebP.
Where 600 × 800 is asked for, and whether it fits
UK passport digital photo
GOV.UK asks for a digital photo at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, between 50 KB and 10 MB, and says not to crop it because cropping is done for you. 600 × 800 clears the pixel minimum, but the service wants the uncropped photo; send the original instead of a resized copy. Our smallest JPG at this size was 34.4 KB, below the 50 KB minimum, so a plain image can be rejected for being too small in bytes.
Instagram posts
Instagram keeps photos at their own resolution when the aspect ratio is between 1.91:1 and 3:4. 600 × 800 is exactly 3:4, the tallest shape Instagram accepts without cropping, so it posts uncropped.
600 × 800 in numbers
Worked out from the pixel size. The crop rows assume the page's default "Crop to fill" setting.

How to make a 600 × 800 image
Add your images
Drop one or more JPG, PNG or WebP files. All of them get the same size and format; you can move the crop for each one.
Check the crop
Sources with the same 3:4 shape are only scaled, so the preview shows the whole picture. Other shapes are cropped to fill; drag the preview to choose what stays.
Pick the format
JPG is accepted everywhere. WebP was smaller for most of our test files at this size, if the site accepts it; PNG keeps transparency but makes the largest files.
Download and check
The file name ends in -600x800, and the results panel shows the exact pixel size and KB so you can compare them with the form before uploading.
What this page produced from our test files
We ran three fixed test files through this page in headless Chrome 129.0.6668.29 on 2026-10-19, with the default "Crop to fill" setting. Sizes are the bytes of the downloaded files. The test files are generated from a fixed seed so anyone can repeat the run; they are not customer photos. WebP was smaller than JPG for all three files, by 6% to 88%.

Before you upload a 600 × 800 image
- A 600 × 800 face photo is not an ID photo by itself: passport and visa rules also fix the head size, background and lighting, which a plain resize does not check. Use the passport photo maker for those.
- Some application forms say "600 × 800" but mean a minimum. If the form says "at least", keep a larger file instead of shrinking it.
Frequently asked questions
What aspect ratio is 600 × 800?
3:4, or 0.75 to 1. Any size with the same ratio, such as 1200 × 1600, has the same shape and can be resized to 600 × 800 without cropping.
How many KB is a 600 × 800 image?
In our tests, 34.4 KB to 211.1 KB as JPG and 4 KB to 169.1 KB as WebP. Without compression it would be 1.37 MB. Noise, text and fine texture make files bigger; flat graphics make them smaller.
How big does 600 × 800 print?
2 × 2.67 in (5.1 × 6.8 cm) at 300 DPI, or 4 × 5.33 in (10.2 × 13.5 cm) at 150 DPI. DPI only changes the print size, not the pixels, so the file is the same either way.
