The calculation, without hidden assumptions

Network plans are usually advertised in bits per second while browsers, download tools and storage devices often report bytes per second. The lowercase b versus uppercase B changes the result by a factor of eight, and decimal prefixes such as MB are not the same as binary MiB. MAXScanner keeps those distinctions visible, supports decimal and binary rate families side-by-side, and adds practical GB/hour and TB/day throughput equivalents without pretending a link rate is the same as real application throughput.

Example: 100 Mbps to MB/s

One byte is eight bits, so 100 megabits per second divided by eight equals 12.5 megabytes per second in decimal units. At that ideal constant rate, about 45 GB transfers in one hour.

What the result does not assume

  • A rated link speed is not guaranteed application throughput. Protocol overhead, congestion, Wi-Fi conditions, storage performance and server limits can reduce observed transfer rate.
  • Decimal MB/s and binary MiB/s are different units. MAXScanner keeps SI k/M/G/T prefixes separate from IEC Ki/Mi/Gi prefixes.
