What this calculator actually does
Flooring is commonly purchased by area or by boxes that cover a stated number of square feet. The useful calculation therefore needs two stages: sum the measured room area, then apply the project waste allowance before rounding up to whole boxes.

Example: 180 sq ft room, 10% waste, 22 sq ft/box
The order area is 198 sq ft. Dividing by 22 sq ft per box gives 9 boxes exactly; a non-whole result is always rounded up to the next full box.

Why does the calculator round boxes up?+
Retail flooring is normally sold in whole boxes, so a partial-box result must be rounded up.
How much waste should I add?+
There is no universal value. Straight, simple rooms usually need less overage than diagonal, herringbone or heavily cut layouts.
Can I combine rooms?+
Yes. This calculator totals up to three rectangular room or section areas before applying the waste allowance.
