Exam upload rules, ready to use

JEE Main 2027 Photo and Signature Size: Resize to 10–200 KB and 10–100 KB

For JEE Main 2027 you upload a scanned colour photo of 10–200 KB and a signature of 10–100 KB, both as JPG/JPEG; the NTA bulletin gives no pixel size. The photo must show about 80% face, ears visible, no mask, on a white background. The kit makes a 350 × 450 pixel photo and a 350 × 150 pixel signature inside those ranges, and keeps a file you already have if it already passes.

JEE Main uploads in short

  • Photo: JPG, 10–200 KB, in colour, about 80% face including ears, no mask, white background. No pixel size is given.
  • Signature: JPG, 10–100 KB, clearly legible.
  • A live photo is taken during the application as well (webcam, or a QR code for a phone). It does not replace the uploaded photo.
  • The Class 10 marksheet goes up as a PDF of 50–300 KB, not as an image.
  • Session 1: apply from 24 October to 22 November 2026 (11:50 pm), with a late fee from 23 to 26 November; corrections 27–29 November. Session 2: 5 January to 3 February 2027.

What JEE Main asks for

Photo: 10–200 KB, 80% face, white background

The bulletin asks for a recent scanned passport-size photo in colour “with 80% face (including ears, without a mask) against white background”, between 10 and 200 KB, in JPG/JPEG. In practice, 80% face means a close-up: the face from hairline to chin fills most of the frame, with both ears in view and only a little of the shoulders.

The kit crops and sizes the photo to 350 × 450 pixels, the 3.5 × 4.5 proportion of a passport print; it does not zoom in on your face or change the background. Take the photo close enough, and make the background white first if it is not.

Signature: 10–100 KB

The signature must be a clearly legible JPG/JPEG between 10 and 100 KB. Because NTA gives no pixel size, a photo of your signature that is already a JPG inside that range passes as it is; in our test a 1600 × 1200 photo of 85.1 KB was kept unchanged. Tap “Make a new copy anyway” if you prefer a cleaned 350 × 150 version with white paper; ours came out at 20.5 KB.

Live photo and the two prints for exam day

The live photo is taken by the application through your webcam, or through a QR code that opens the camera on a phone; the bulletin asks for a white background, proper light and the same 80% face rule. On exam day you carry two passport-size photos that are the same as the uploaded one, so print from the file you upload.

Class 10 marksheet: a PDF, not an image

The Class 10 (or equivalent) certificate or marksheet is uploaded as a PDF of 50–300 KB. If your scan is larger, compress the PDF to 300 KB with the tool linked below; if it is smaller than 50 KB, scan it again at a higher resolution instead of padding it.

How to prepare the JEE Main files

  1. 1. Take the photo close up against a white wall

Stand in daylight in front of a white wall. Hold the phone at eye level and close enough that your face fills most of the frame, with both ears visible and no mask.

  2. 2. Hold the phone upright

Phones often save a portrait as a sideways picture with a rotation tag. The kit reads the tag, flags it and makes an upright copy, so the portal sees the photo the right way up.

  3. 3. Sign on white paper

Sign in black or blue ink on plain white paper and photograph it from straight above.

  4. 4. Add both files and read the checks

If a file already meets the KB range and is a JPG, the kit keeps it unchanged; otherwise it makes a 350 × 450 photo or a 350 × 150 signature and checks it again.

  5. 5. Print the same photo twice

Download the files, upload them in the form, and print two copies of the uploaded photo for the admit card and the attendance sheet.

  6. 6. Prepare the marksheet PDF

Check that the Class 10 marksheet PDF is between 50 and 300 KB before you start the upload step.

What we got from real files

Our kit with the JEE Main preset on 2026-11-04, in Chrome at a 390 px phone width. 1 KB = 1,024 bytes; times are from a desktop computer, a phone takes longer.

Both phone photos were too large at more than 500 KB, and the second one was also stored sideways with a rotation tag; both were remade upright at 350 × 450 pixels, around 54–56 KB. The 413 × 531 passport JPG from a studio was only 10.6 KB, but that is inside 10–200 KB and NTA sets no pixel size, so the kit kept it unchanged.

When this page is not the right tool

  • Your photo is not on a white background. Make the background white with the background tool, then come back.
  • You need a printed passport photo at 3.5 × 4.5 cm rather than an upload. Use the passport photo maker.
  • You are applying for CUET (UG) or NEET. Their bulletins set their own limits: CUET (UG) 2026 asked for a signature of 10–50 KB, so a 60 KB JEE signature would fail there. Use the all-exams kit with the matching preset.

Frequently asked questions

What is the photo size for JEE Main 2027 in KB?

Between 10 KB and 200 KB, as a JPG/JPEG, in colour, with about 80% face including ears, no mask and a white background. The signature is 10 KB to 100 KB.

What does 80% face mean for the JEE Main photo?

That the face, from hairline to chin and ear to ear, fills about four fifths of the photo. Take it close up; a half-body photo cropped later usually leaves the face too small.

Is there a pixel size for the JEE Main photo and signature?

No. The 2027 bulletin gives only the KB ranges and the JPG format. The kit makes 350 × 450 and 350 × 150 pixels when it remakes a file, and accepts any pixel size when it checks a file you already have.

Can the live photo replace the uploaded photo?

No. The application takes a live photo through your camera and also asks for the scanned passport-size photo. Prepare the scanned photo here; the live one is taken in the form.

What is the last date to apply for JEE Main 2027 Session 1?

22 November 2026, up to 11:50 pm, according to the bulletin. A late-fee window runs from 23 to 26 November, and corrections are open from 27 to 29 November.

What size should the Class 10 marksheet PDF be?

Between 50 KB and 300 KB, as a clearly legible PDF.
