1200 × 630 pixels at a glance

1200 × 630 pixels is a landscape image 1200 pixels wide and 630 tall: 756,000 pixels in total (0.76 megapixels), with a 40:21 aspect ratio (1.905:1). This wide shape, about 1.91:1, is the link-preview card used by Facebook and other Open Graph readers; a landscape phone photo keeps 70% of its height.

It is a full-width web size that fills a phone screen or a blog column without looking soft. On this page our three test files came out at 44.7 KB to 334.3 KB as JPG and 6.3 KB to 260.3 KB as WebP.

Where 1200 × 630 is asked for, and whether it fits

Facebook and Open Graph link previews

Meta recommends og:image files of at least 1200 × 630 pixels, as close to 1.91:1 as possible, up to 8 MB. 1200 × 630 is exactly that recommendation, so Facebook shows the whole image in the large preview card without cropping.

Instagram posts

Instagram uploads photos up to 1080 pixels wide and keeps shapes between 1.91:1 and 3:4; at 1080 wide the height must be at least 566 pixels. 1200 × 630 is just inside the widest shape. Instagram scales it to about 1080 × 567, one pixel above its minimum height.

1200 × 630 in numbers

Worked out from the pixel size. The crop rows assume the page's default "Crop to fill" setting.

How to make a 1200 × 630 image

  1. Add your images

Drop one or more JPG, PNG or WebP files. All of them get the same size and format; you can move the crop for each one.

  2. Choose how to reach 40:21

Keep "Crop to fill" for a full frame with nothing stretched, and drag the preview so the subject stays inside it. Switch to "Fit inside, pad" when nothing may be cut off, such as a wide logo.

  3. Pick the format

JPG is accepted everywhere. WebP was smaller for most of our test files at this size, if the site accepts it; PNG keeps transparency but makes the largest files.

  4. Download and check

The file name ends in -1200x630, and the results panel shows the exact pixel size and KB so you can compare them with the form before uploading.

What this page produced from our test files

We ran three fixed test files through this page in headless Chrome 129.0.6668.29 on 2026-10-19, with the default "Crop to fill" setting. Sizes are the bytes of the downloaded files. The test files are generated from a fixed seed so anyone can repeat the run; they are not customer photos. WebP was smaller than JPG for all three files, by 8% to 86%.

Before you upload a 1200 × 630 image

  • The shape is 40:21, not exactly 1.91:1 (it is 1.905:1). Tools that "round" to 1.91:1 produce 1200 × 628; both work, but do not mix them in one template.
  • Link-preview images are cached by the platform. After you replace the file, use Meta's Sharing Debugger to make Facebook fetch the new one.

Frequently asked questions

What aspect ratio is 1200 × 630?

40:21, or 1.905 to 1. Any size with the same ratio, such as 2400 × 1260, has the same shape and can be resized to 1200 × 630 without cropping.

How many KB is a 1200 × 630 image?

In our tests, 44.7 KB to 334.3 KB as JPG and 6.3 KB to 260.3 KB as WebP. Without compression it would be 2.16 MB. Noise, text and fine texture make files bigger; flat graphics make them smaller.

How big does 1200 × 630 print?

4 × 2.1 in (10.2 × 5.3 cm) at 300 DPI, or 8 × 4.2 in (20.3 × 10.7 cm) at 150 DPI. DPI only changes the print size, not the pixels, so the file is the same either way.
