Example: why a 1% annual fee compounds
If two scenarios receive the same contributions and gross return but one loses a percentage of assets to fees every year, its lower balance also has less money available to compound in future periods. The long-run dollar gap therefore includes both fees and foregone growth.
What the result does not assume
- •The model uses a regular monthly timing convention and a simplified percentage-fee model. Actual funds can charge fees, spreads, taxes and transaction costs differently.
