240 × 240 pixels in short

240 × 240 pixels is the left thumb impression size in the SBI Clerk (Junior Associates) notice: a square of 57,600 pixels that SBI describes as 3 cm × 3 cm at 200 DPI, uploaded as JPG or JPEG between 20 and 50 KB.

Fingerprint ridges are fine detail, so a thumb impression makes a heavier file than a signature of the same size. Ours gave 16.8 KB here with Crop to fill, just under the 20 KB floor, and 37.3 KB through the kit's SBI preset, which passed. Press once with blue or black ink and keep the whole impression inside the square.

Where a 240 × 240 thumb impression is asked for

SBI Junior Associates (Clerk) application

Annexure II asks you to put your left thumb impression on white paper with black or blue ink and upload it at 240 × 240 pixels in 200 DPI ("preferred for required quality"), 3 cm × 3 cm, 20 to 50 KB, jpg or jpeg. A candidate without a left thumb may use the right thumb.

Biometric checks later in the selection

The same notice says SBI may capture your thumb impression or iris digitally at various stages to verify you, that any inconsistency leads to rejection, and advises against mehndi, ink or chemicals on your hands on those days. Upload your own left thumb, made the way the notice asks.

What 200 DPI means here

3 cm at 200 dots per inch is 236 pixels; SBI rounds it to 240, which is 3.05 cm. What you upload is measured in pixels and kilobytes; the DPI note only links those 240 pixels to 3 cm on paper.

How to make a 240 × 240 thumb impression

  1. Ink the thumb lightly

Touch your left thumb to a blue or black stamp pad once, then press it on plain white paper with steady pressure and lift it straight up. A second press over the first one blurs the ridges.

  2. Photograph it close and sharp

Hold the phone above the impression in good light until the camera focuses on the ridges. A flatbed scanner works too; SBI suggests at least 200 dpi when scanning.

  3. Upload and crop to the square

A portrait phone photo is 3:4, so Crop to fill keeps 75% of its height (1200 × 1200 from 1200 × 1600). Drag the square so the whole impression, with a thin white margin, is inside.

  4. Check the size against the range

If the result panel shows less than 20 KB, the portal's range check will fail. Run the same photo through the kit's SBI preset, which keeps the ridges at the highest quality that fits under 50 KB.

  5. Upload it in the thumb field

The file ends in -240x240.jpg. SBI asks for each image in its own space and can refuse exam entry when the photo and signature are not uploaded in their places, so match each file to its field.

What we got from real files

A generated thumb-impression photo (not a customer file), run through this page and the kit's SBI preset in headless Chromium at 390 × 844 on 4 November 2026. Results were ready 0.17 to 0.27 seconds after the click.

When this page is not the right tool

  • Reaching 20 KB. This page does not raise a file to a minimum, so a clean impression can fall just short. The kit's SBI preset handles the range.
  • A smudged impression. Blurred ridges stay blurred at any size. Clean the thumb, use less ink and press again on fresh paper.
  • Finger photos without ink. The notice asks for an ink impression on paper, not a photo of your thumb itself.
  • All four SBI images. This page makes one square file. The kit prepares the photo, signature, thumb impression and declaration in one pass and checks every one.

Frequently asked questions

What does "240 x 240 pixels in 200 DPI" mean?

Make the image 240 pixels wide and 240 pixels tall. At 200 dots per inch, 240 pixels print as 3.05 cm, which is how SBI arrives at "3 cm × 3 cm". The pixels are what you upload.

What is the thumb impression size in KB for SBI?

Between 20 and 50 KB, in jpg or jpeg. Our test impression came out at 16.8 KB with a plain resize and 37.3 KB through the kit.

Can I use my right thumb?

Only if you do not have a left thumb; the SBI notice allows the right thumb in that case.

Blue ink or black ink?

Either. The notice says black or blue ink on white paper. Use a stamp pad rather than a pen so the ridges print evenly.

Does the uploaded impression matter after I apply?

The notice says SBI may capture your thumb impression or iris at various stages for biometric verification and that any inconsistency leads to rejection, so upload your own left thumb.

Is the image sent to a server?

No. MAXScanner resizes it in your browser; nothing is uploaded until you upload it to SBI yourself.
